Well I made it to the end. It took me two tries but I was finally able to accomplish this wonderful project. I found it difficult at times to find the time to complete the various projects. I am thriled with all the new knowledge I have obtained. I thought I was somewhat update on some the new information out there boy was I wrong. I will have to set aside some time every day every other day to just sit down and read some of my RSS feeds or someone's blog. Thank you for making this experience possible and for all the time and effort it must have taken to put this together. I know if I don't practice I will lose what I have learned so I will make time for learning about web 2.0

I think for me to keep up using web 2.0 tools I need to keep reading my RSS feeds about it and talk with people who just go out and explore the web. I think the best way for me to keep learning is to take time like 23 things on a stick and reading what other people are saying about Web 2.0. I found some of the web 2.0 blogs intimidating but I would recommend the NeverEndingSearch blog by SLJ. I found it pretty user friendly and much more tuned into what I would like to learn about.

I had heard there were other social networking sites out there but had not had a chance to explore them. It was nice to have an excuse to browse other social networking sites. I did not allow myself enough time to have much exploring but I can see that each network is set up with a little different focus. I enjoyed reading about how gathering is focused on books and publishing. This would be a great way to have an audience critque ect.. new ideas and get feed back. I don't think I will be able to use these at work because of current restrictions but it was nice to explore and get a feel for what is out there.

I use my space for personal use already to keep current with friends across the country. I did not realize that libraries were using it to connect to teen patrons. I think that is a great idea. Our school has decided because of supervision and bandwidth issues to not allow face book or my space. I can see how a library could really increase the draw of the teen group by using these social networking sites.

Podcast
Listen to one on the comics it was called Comic Library. I was just searching yahoo for a podcast and stumbled upon this site. It was interesting but not one I would subscribe to so I will keep looking. This is an easy way for information to disperse through the internet and to have feed back on what you are doing. I found the educational podcast the easiest to use but was just coming across text and no audio. I would like to find a podcast that would talk about the last books for a library and their critique of the books. I would subscribe to something along those lines.

I really like the feature of having an RSS feed on a search. I can really see the benefits of having this feature if you were doing research on a certain topic. You would always have the most up to date information on the subject. I did follow all the directions for adding a feed to READER but it would not work for the longest time. I went in today and even though it had said my feed failed, it worked :)

RPC and the Teacher Guide
I already introduced my english teachers to this resource last year and one tried it. It was helpful for the struggling students. I hope to intoduce it to more students this year.
I think I may have my students invovled in the inventors fair sign up for this project. Since I only see them once a week it is sometimes difficult to keep them on task in between.

Puzzle Pirate was interesting to explore. I have played SIM type games and also the Pop Cap type games but never together. I think I could get very addicted to this type of game. I can see why some schools might block this because it seems to take up quite a bit of bandwidth. It was blocked at my school and I went to the public library to try this out. I am sure the kids next to me were wondering what an adult is doing playing games at the library. I can also see that this type of game might be useful in learning how to interact on the online environment. It is great to see the creativity of all the computer programs out there who continue to tweek and improve.

Library Thing
Interesting way to keep track the books you are reading or have read or recommend. I like that I can add it to my blog and share with others what I am reading. Another way to keep in touch with others in the field. I am not sure if I would use it much with my elementary students but I think my highschool students would enjoy it.

Productivity Tools

I chose iGoogle since so many of the features so far have had Google as the owner of the product. Now I can surf between many sites and my RSS and Gmail. I see this as a useful tool but would spend to much time rearrange things for a bit. It is very easy to use. I like the feature of moving the gadgets around and minimizing

I was not able to get the calendars from the website article to work so I used the the Google calendar. Extremely easy to add events and delete. I just would have to get into the routine of check it. I think I am a bit old school with a paper calendar still.

I am not sure if I would the list sites in my library. I like to write lists but not sure I would log on to create one. I think the biggest reason is that I am not always close to a computer. If I was mostly at my desk during the day I might use it.

I looked at backpack and I think I may try it some time. My brain has had all the new information it can handle today.

I can see myself never coming away from the computer by just exploring these social media sites. Power to the people seems to be the way the top sites are posted. The Diggit site felt like a familiar set up for other social networking sites. Newsvine felt more like going to a news site like BBC.

I can see why these sites would be helpful. You can see some of the current topics of interest and keep up with popular news articles. I think the students at school would find these sites of interest because they can input on what is on the website.

I knew these sites existed but I had never visited them before. I am not sure if they are productive in say a research sense but it gives you several perspectives on the world with being able to see others comments.

Del.icio.us. Oh what fun. I like the way you can tag and add bookmarks (excuse me favorites or what ever term you are currently using). I think I would use this personally as well as professionally. I can see this would be wonderful for students conducting research . They would be able to save the sites they had visited at school and use them at home as well. There would no longer be the frantic search for the site they used in a paper but forgot to cite. Hmm many uses.

I was just thinking this might work for peer editing of papers for english classes. I really enjoy Wikipedia already and can see this will be useful in other ways. Group projects might work really well using a Wiki tool. I know that I am far behind but I want to keep going and learn this new tools so I will finish this.

Well I guess I was to late to get in on the editing of the documents. It is saying that the documents do not exsist anymore. Looks like a neat idea for collaboration on items like school work and other items.

I use this to communicate with my fellow teachers to share new books and other items of interest.

IM and TEXT messaging
I have not really used this in my work setting because both are not allowed in my school for the students. I use them only as a personal tool outside of work.

Which OPAL or MINITEX Web conference (Webinar) did you attend? How was it? What do you think o this communication tool?

I went to serval webinar but my farvorite was the one about WorldCat I really enjoyed this new online tool and how I could even add it to my webpage for easy access.

This was very fun to upload the picture and have it turn into a puzzle. I think I will use this tool more next year. Finding time to play/learn has been a challenge.

Flikr this area I was not as familiar with and took some time to learn the different views of the pictures and then how to attach to my blog. I had tried several times to blog a photo and I guess Blogger and Flickr were not working well together at the time. Finally manage to upload a photo today. HURRAH. I was very frustrated for awhile and kept reading the directions to see what I had done wrong. I would love to have my media center photos uploaded on this site so I could access them from anywhere. My only concern would be to remember to keep the photos private so that any photos of students is not in the public domain.

RSS: It took me a little while to understand how to subscribe to a feed. I like the fact that this technology will grab just the new things and show it to me like an e-mail. I kind of feel that I might get overwhelmed if I were to subscribe to very many of them. I see this would be a great thing for teachers to use to see if students had done anything new on a particular topic. It might be a great way to show other people in a school building the new books available in the library. I have been thinking of setting up a blog for the Media Center and I might just add an RSS feature to it. I think the blog might be more focused on new books or student book reviews. Hmm... something to ponder.

Wow to see how so many people are talking about 23 things is refreshing to see. I sometimes feel very alone in my school position. This is a great adventure to see the wider world view. I sometimes get stuck in my same old routinue that I forget about the wealth of information and conections you can make. I am learning some new tricks and renewing my interest in some of the programs I have used already.

This is my first official blog. I have used a blog inside of another program but not a stand alone one. It was quite easy to set-up. I am thrilled to start to use some more of this technology to understand what my students are doing. I had already set up an avatar in yahoo but I did not realize I could export it to other sites. I am already having fun.
